KD Berkshire Pork Management Practices
There’s so much happening on the farm to ensure our customers receive the highest quality pork possible. To bring our exceptional production process to light, we’ve outlined the key features below. Keep reading to learn the benefits you’ll receive when you choose our pork.
Only the Best for Our Pigs
We believe that pigs should not be forced to live their lives in confinement buildings. Instead our pigs spend the majority of the year on pasture where the have room to run, forage, root, and wallow. Our pigs spend the winter burrowed into the deep bedding in the barn and enjoying the attached outdoor lot. By limiting their access to the pasture over the winter we are able to reduce overgrazing and soil compaction.
Healthy Pigs, Healthy Pork
We take great care in managing the health and well-being of our pigs. Through proper management we are able to produce top quality pork without the use of antibiotics, vaccines, or artificial growth hormones.
Happy Soil, Happy Plants, Happy Pigs
All aspects of the farm are carefully managed to ensure that our processes benefit the environment. Our pigs play an important role in the health of the pastures. Through rotational grazing they deliver just the right amount of disturbance to improve soil health, plant growth, and species diversity. Of course pigs love to root up the soil, so this disturbance must be carefully managed and adjusted as the grazing characteristics change.
It’s not just about the pork you’re buying. It’s about the way your pig is treated, the way the soil is treated, and the way small family farms are treated. Get in touch today to learn more about our pork and management practices.
